Station North’s “Load of Fun” Building Sold

Good news for artists in the Station North area of the Midtown district. The “Load of Fun” building has been sold and although plans are still being mapped out, it will remain a place for artists to use! More from the Baltimore Sun:

Load of Fun, a century-old former car dealership on North Avenue that had operated as an arts center until building inspectors forced it to close last year, has been sold to the Baltimore Arts Realty Corp.

Although plans for the building are still being developed, a spokesman for BARCO said it would continue to be “devoted to artists, as it was before.”

Tentative plans call for retail uses on the first floor, the proceeds from which would be used to subsidize low-cost studio space for artists on the second floor, said Taylor C. DeBoer of the Deutsch Foundation, a major funder of BARCO. The third floor could be used as office space for arts organizations, he said.

Permits can be picked up at one of three sessions below or at the RPP offices after September 12. Apply on-line by September 23. New residents must apply in person after September 12 at the RPP office. Note that the RPP office does not accept cash for the purchase of permits. See documentation requirements below or complete requirements on-line.

RENEWAL PICKUP SESSIONS, PAID PERMITS ONLY

  • Thursday, September 12   5:30pm – 8pm     Location for all three dates:
  • Monday, September 16   5:30pm – 8pm       Midtown Benefits District Office
  • Tuesday, September 24     5:30pm – 8pm     1221 North Calvert Street

You must provide your driver’s license and current vehicle registration. The registration should be in your name and reflect your Mt. Vernon address. If the vehicle registration is not in your name, you will also need to provide a notarized letter from the owner of the vehicle stating that you are the sole driver, along with proof of residency (a current lease, current utility bill, cable or phone bill.

Students and military must have and show a current ID.

If the vehicle registration is out of state and you do not have a Maryland driver’s license, you must obtain a non-resident permit from the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles. You must provide the receipt from DMV and a copy of the application. 

520 Park Ave: New Apartments Coming To Mount Vernon

Looking for a place in Midtown Baltimore’s beautiful Mount Vernon neighborhood? 171 new luxury apartments are being built at 520 Park Ave. The address was once the location of the Hochschild, Kohn & Co. department store warehouse.
